Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the
Wisconsin International School!
We understand the importance of finding the school that provides the best
match for your child and your family - a place where your son or daughter
will thrive. Our goal is to insure his or her success by getting to know your
child in the admissions process. But, the first step is deciding if WIS
matches the academic and character development goals you have for your
child. We encourage you to explore our web site.
You'll learn about our innovative programs, find detailed information about
our comprehensive curriculum, learn about our achievements, and get a
sense of our dynamic, diverse community. We hope you like what you see
and will schedule a visit!
From our inception, character and intellect have always been cornerstones
of the WIS education. Emphasis on community building, global perspective,
valuing academics, and personal responsibility complete the school life
at WIS.
Preschool
The world is a place of wonder and exploration. Learning to share, sing
along with others, discovering about feathers and fur, and more are all
part of the preschool experience. Our preschoolers learn a second
language, with daily instruction starting in our toddler room. Language
development through our Zoo Phonics instruction, literature rich teaching,
and art experiences open up the world to this age group. Our preschool is
a warm, caring place where the foundations of intellect and character are
nurtured.
Elementary School
You will notice something different about the quality of work, dialogue, and
tone in the elementary school - a uniqueness that comes from intentionally
crafted approach to teaching. Teachers build a classroom experience that
is truly child-centered - reflecting children's interests, engaging their
active inquiry, and allowing them to take ownership for their learning
and work, whether that is through our International Baccalaureate units,
extra science or social studies projects or personal research. Our teachers
recognize and appreciate differences and differentiate their teaching styles
and expectations to find the right match between learning outcomes and
individual needs. At WIS, teachers take great care to insure that each
child is known and valued. Moreover, WIS students build positive
character traits through high expectations, defined classroom and
community values, and caring guidance by our teachers. The Elementary
School is a very special place for kindergartners to fifth graders.
Middle School
As you visit the classrooms, we encourage you to take in the sights,
sounds and feel of these grade levels. The Middle School was intentionally
designed to balance the high expectations for academics at each grade
level with the community building among all of the students in the three
grades. Middle school students develop character through practicing the
IB attitudes and learn 'how to learn', essential for success in high school
through the Socratic Methodology. You will notice students and teachers
engaged in group work as well as individual study, and you will witness
cutting-edge technology at work as teachers and students participate
actively in discussions, activities, and projects with smart boards and
netbook computers that support interactive learning. Middle school
students emerge from these years ready and eager to take on the
most academic high school programs available.
We encourage you to schedule a visit to see WIS for yourself -
there is much to discover!
